In a complex and rapidly changing world, good quality, comprehensive and accessible Careers Information, Advice and Guidance is essential.

At Sprowston Community Academy we take your child’s future very seriously.  As well as equipping them with the qualifications they require to take the next steps they want to, we also strive to ensure they have developed the skills required to succeed in the modern workplace and to make effective decisions about the right career pathway for them.

All teachers are involved in giving information and advice that is sometimes careers related.  The support of the form tutor, Head of Year, SenCo and all subject teachers, to name but a few people, forms a valuable part of the process of vocational choice and career decision making.  However, there are also professionals available in school that have a specialist role in supporting students with their careers research and decision making.

Your Careers Advisers

Belinda Ladds

Belinda is a Careers Adviser from the Beacon East company.  Most of Belinda's time is spent seeing students from Years 9 to 13, for individual guidance interviews.  During these appointments she discusses with students their future career ideas and offers independent, impartial careers guidance about the range of education and training options available to them.

Belinda is normally available in school on a Tuesday.

After teaching for 35 years Belinda decided to retrain as a Careers Adviser and completed a post graduate qualification in Careers Guidance at Reading University.. She began work as a Careers Adviser for Connexions Lincolnshire and Rutland for four years and a Manager/Careers Adviser for two.  She then left to work as a Student Support Director at Fakenham College, where her work included supporting young people in their studies and also as a Careers Adviser.. She now provides Careers Guidance to students in various schools through the Beacon East company.

Jackie Hammond

Jackie also spends much of her time in school providing one to one Careers Guidance to students from Years 9 to 13.

In addition to individual appointments Jackie works closely with the school to ensure that all students are able to access the level of Careers Information, Advice and Guidance that is appropriate to their needs.  Not all students require a one to one appointment, but all students do require accurate and up to date careers information and advice at key points in their High School journey.  Jackie helps the school to track and identify students who need further input.

Jackie first starting working for Norfolk Careers Services in 1997 and prior to this had worked in Human Resources at the John Innes Centre.  Having initially started in an administration role with the Careers Service, Jackie soon developed an interest in Careers Guidance.  In 1999 she moved in to the role of Employment Adviser and specialised in working with unemployed 16-19 year olds.  She then progressed into a Careers Adviser post in 2002 and gained her Careers Guidance qualification whilst working in the role.  Jackie then worked as a Connexions Personal Adviser from 2003.  Up until last year Jackie worked in a Careers Guidance role with Children’s Services.  Jackie now works in both Sprowston Community High School and City of Norwich School through the Beacon East company.

Sprowston is pleased to be supported by two experienced Careers Advisers, who have worked with young people in various settings.

In partnership with the school, the Careers Advisers are committed to ensuring that students move on from Year 11 into positive outcomes.
