  • After-school STEM club

    Last month as part of the Science department's after-school STEM club, attending students have been designing and making sugar cube-sized sculptures for the SµGRE-1 micro-gravity experiment where they could be launched into sub-orbital space on board a rocket.

  • Norwich Science Festival 2017

    On the 17th October the Science Faculty took 15 students to the Norwich Science Festival. The students had a great time working on different experiments and listenting to some really interesting speakers. The students wrote their thoughts about the day, some of which are listed below and please view the photo gallery of the day.

  • Literacy & Physics

    We are always looking for links between literacy and other departments. I recently team taught a Year 8 physics lesson on air pressure and it was great to witness the students' realisation that the sentence starters they had learnt in English lessons were perfect for explaining scientific processes. These students should be well prepared for six mark questions by the time they sit their exams in Y11!

  • International Space Challenge at RAF Waddington

    On Monday 26th June six year 10 students attended the International Space Challenge at RAF Waddington near Lincoln. The students had to design and build a model of a space hotel, backed up with scientific, mathematical and engineering data. They then had to prepare and deliver a marketing presentation in Spanish. The panel of judges included representatives from the RAF, Business Language Champions, People First Education, pH Interim Forensic Engineering and the National Space Academy.

  • Top of the Bench Competition

    Top of the Bench is a national competition for 14 –16 year old students studying chemistry. Royal Society of Chemistry Local Sections run heats during the autumn term to select a team to represent the section in the UK final the following year.

    At the end of April, Harrison, Michael, Charlotte and Elita went to Loughborough to compete in the National final for the Top of the Bench competition following their regional win. They spent the day tackling tough forensics challenges both written and practical. They gave it their all and made us proud placing 24th out of 32 schools from across the whole country! Well done to them all!

  • Welcoming Students from Junior Schools

    We have had a fantastic day today welcoming students from Sprowston Jr, Falcon Jr and Frettenham to take part in several transition to High School events.

    Year 6s from Sprowston and Falcon Jr took part in our 'MFL' breakfast, run by some of our top Year 7 linguists. It was great fun and we look forward to hosting another one in the future.

  • Fantastic team wins chemistry competition

    Sprowston Community High School has been victorious in the East Anglian heats at the annual Top of the Bench Science Investigation Day, and will go on to compete in the national finals in 2017.
