We held a special assembly for Year 7 on Thursday 8th December where we invited a number of guests from different occupational backgrounds. The whole idea was to inspire the pupils to challenge gender stereotypes in the workplace.
They had a brilliant time guessing the careers of our guests, these included......Police Force, Fire Fighter, Nurse, Hairdresser, Archaeologist, Scientist, Construction (Multi-Trade Apprentice, Planning Manager and Site Manager) and Computer Programmer. We also had a guest who is a Graphic Recorder, who illustrated the event as it was taking place......see the photos.
The pupils engaged really positively and were a credit to the school. They only guessed one of the careers correctly, but this was the whole point of the exercise. We hope we gave them something to think about and have inspired many of them to challenge these gender stereotypes and what they are capable of achieving in the future.
