Through our links with Norwich University of Arts and with NEACO Sprowston students are being offered opportunities to experience Guest Artist Speakers. On Wednesday 31st January 30 students from GCSE, BTEC and A level Art, Textiles and Photography met Nikkita Morgan learn all about her work and what motivates her as well as potential career opportunities in Textile, Design and Research careers.
I am delighted to be able to announce that Y12 Photography student Mya Fairweather has been selected as one of the four winners of the PhotoEast Young Person’s Photography Fellowship.
To enter Mya had to submit examples of her work, a project proposal and persuade the judges why she would be an excellent candidate for the fellowship.
The judges felt that her proposal has great potential as a body of photographic work and that it will make a valuable contribution to the exhibition being planned for the PhotoEast Festival 2018.
This year, thanks to NEACO funding students at SCA have the opportunity to take the Bronze level Arts Award, working with Jennie Robinson from the arts groups 'Wandering Arts'. 12 of the students got their practical project of to a flying start this week with a full day workshop at the fantastic Norwich Puppet Theatre.
The day began with an introduction to the range and types of puppets that are used and students were able to have a go, they even got to manipulate one of the oldest puppets in the theatre. The rest of the day was spent making their own puppets; some of the puppets they made have a rod and others have a rod and string mechanism.
Well done to the year 10 students who took part in the Year 10 Maths Feast at the City of Norwich School.
Both teams performed brilliantly and were great ambassadors for the school.
We were pleased to get an award for teamwork.
Thanks also to sixth former Katie Orbell who supervised one of the teams.
Ms Humpleby and Ms Harris went back to University on a Friday evening to experience a Drawing workshop to experience a Life Drawing class taught by NUA Fine Art tutor Will Teather
"It was a great experience, I really enjoyed the work and was pleased to see that even after all these years as an artist i can still learn something new. Will Teather has an exhibition at the Arts Centre on St Benedict St where is is also the current Artist in Residence. I went there for a talk on Saturday and it is well worth a visit"
Ms Humpleby
Congratulations to all the students from this half term who achieved an Academic Success Award. This is to recognise their outstanding academic achievement and attitude.
The awards are given by class teachers to those students who have shone in terms of working extra hard in and out of lessons, or persevering with difficult work, along with those who have exceeded their personal target grades and achieved at a high level.
Well done to all students and keep up these really high standards for the rest of the year.
